Prepare one song, preferably in the style of Sondheim, that will show off your vocal talent. There is no desired cut to the song you choose; it may be any length. You will also be asked to read something in a British accent.
An accompanist will be made available to you. You may also bring a cd or play accompaniment yourself. Please refrain from singing acapella.
Not required, but appreciated.
Full and fair casting consideration will be given to ethnic minorities, women, seniors, and actors with disabilities.
Video Auditions are accepted only if you are available for callbacks.
-Sweeney Todd- Morose and vengeful; a barber by profession who returned to London, after fifteen years of unjust incarceration to seek revenge first on the corrupt judge who sent him there, and then on all his clients.
-Mrs. Lovett- A cheerful, talkative, lady who cooks “The Worst Pies in London”; Todd’s landlady and infatuated lover.
-Judge Turpin- A corrupt judiciary official who becomes infatuated with Lucy Barker, and later with her daughter Johanna.
-Toby- A simpleton who works first for con-man Pirelli, and then for Mrs. Lovett, but does not trust Todd.
-Pirelli- An Irish charlatan and former employee of Benjamin Barker’s who has since developed a public persona as a flashy Italian barber; he attempts to blackmail Todd.
-Beadle Bamford- Turpin’s right-hand man and accomplice.
-Johanna- Todd’s beautiful young daughter, claimed by Judge Turpin as his ward.
-Anthony Hope- A young, naïve sailor who has rescued Todd and falls in love with Johanna Barker.
-Beggar Woman- A mad woman whose interjections go unheeded
-Jonas Fogg- A crazy asylum owner.
-Birdseller- Sells birds to the hopeful Johanna.
