I am so excited about this new project!! Some of my most cherished childhood memories involve the friends and theater family that I was introduced to through the Robertson County Players. I’ve been fortunate to enjoy a performing career that has taken me all over the country, but my favorite venue will probably always be the stage at our historic theater in Springfield. We are truly blessed with an exceptional performance space. My chief goal as a director this summer is to create the basis for wonderful community and artistic memories for everyone connected with the show!
With the support of the RCP Board of Directors, who are serving as the producers for the show, I am assembling a top-notch musical staff. Lewis Walling, my childhood friend and one of the most talented pianists I personally know, will be serving as the Musical Supervisor. I’ve got a couple talented choreographers on board. A cool designer friend from Nashville is going to lend his creative eye. Now we just need to find our talented cast!
“No Business Like Show Business – A Tribute to American Musical Theater” will be an original musical review, featuring a cast of super-talented singers from our area. I would like to cast 16 adults and 4 kids, ages 10-14. There will be a little choreography, and some creative musical staging, but I’m primarily looking for really talented musical theater singers. Don’t let lack of stage experience, and especially lack of dance expertise keep you from auditioning. I’m asking everyone to come prepared with two Broadway tunes of your choosing. One should be a song in a style that features your talents best, and the other in a contrasting style. The brief movement audition will be very simple. No special dance clothes or shoes will be needed.
Auditions will be on the stage at the Springfield Middle School theater on Saturday, April 27th from 12-3pm, and on Sunday, April 28th from 1-4pm. Please come ready to sing your best showtune, do a short movement combination, and HAVE SOME FUN! Check the RCP website for further information or updates. You can also contact me directly with any questions at (917) 532-8069.
I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting some new, talented singers in a couple weeks!
Stan Stanley, Director.
